ROSAE MVNDI by PROFVMVM

Rosae MvndiWHAT I SMELL: Rosae Mvndi has a sweet and tarty rose opening that smells like candy (Sweethearts), and it  has this cotton candy consistency, like rose spun sugar.  Even though it’s rosy sweet it’s light enough not to make it oppressive.  A woody patuchouli lurks underneath to help bring the spun sugar down to a more earthly existence.  After around 15 minutes a slight sourness comes in I believe from the vetiver which kind of gives the fragrance a salty edge.  After another 10 minutes or so, Rosae Mvndi begins to smell exactly like Bazooka Bubble Gum.  It almost has that sweet and juicy first bite into the gum feel.  After some more time, the fragrance deepens, although it has that Bazooka edge, the warmth and woodiness starts to make it diminish and instead, it beefens up the fragrance.  Wait… after almost an hour, the fragrance went into sugar overdrive, like someone spilled sugar all over it.  In the end Rosae Mvndi is a woody rose fragrance that is sweet, but not overly shiny and bright.

Rosae Mvndi Notes:  rose, patchouli, vetiver, cedar wood

BazookaWHAT IT SMELLS LIKE TO ME:  Of course, Bazooka Bubble Gum (OK, not through the entire life, but enough of it to warrant the comparison).

THREE ADJECTIVES THAT DESCRIBE ROSAE MVNDI:  sugary, sweetened, candy-coated

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT ROSAE MVNDI:  Scent for Thought, AustralianPerfumeJunkies

BOTTOM LINE:  I don’t love it.  I don’t hate it.  I can tell you that a little goes a long way and this is probably more suited for cooler months as the sugary sweetness would probably become extremely cloying in the heat and sun.

  1. Sounds like one I should definitely avoid, as I am not a huge fan of roses and definitely not of such sweetness. Thanks for a very fun review, Mr. Hound.

  2. I’m not a fan of sugary, cotton candy type notes. I have no idea what Bazooka Bubble Gum smells like but I can kinda imagine. 😀 Sounds rather gooey…

  3. Thank you for the great review, Hound. It’s another one of the Profvmvm fragrances to take off my test list. Not a fan on sweet, sugary fragrances. I tend to like more masculine interpretation of rose notes and this doesn’t sound like one. Have you tried Antico Caruso? If you have, what are your thoughts about it?

    • I have not tried Antico Caruso… I’m guessing that I should??!! I just looked it up on Fragrantica…almond can sometimes get really sweet, but mixed with sandalwood? Sounds interesting.

      • You’re right that almonds can be really sweet. This one stays more mellow/soapy. You definitely get some sweetness but overall, the composition is not that sweet. It’s interesting but by no means very original. Give it a try. I’m curious what you think.

  4. Thank you for the warning. I’ll pass this one. But why 3 bones? From your description it doesn’t sound more than 2.5 – if that.

    • It’s a 3 because even though it’s sweet I state at the end that I don’t love it, but I don’t hate it. To me, that sounded in my head like a 3. Trust me, I’d never run out and by a bottle, but given the right moment, it might be fun wearing it. That might sound a bit schizophrenic….but sometimes fragrances fall into this “at the right time and the right place it might work” category.

  5. I don’t think I need this one. I’m sweet enough as it is.
Ha! Just kidding. I actually like the smell of bubble gum and I could imagine a rosy interpretation of it. I have a rose flavored tea that came to mind while reading your review. Roses sometimes go sour on me so on the right day I might actually like this. I don’t like that price. I need to smell a bit better than bubble gum for over $200.

    • My dear Poodle… you are sweet, but if you like a little sweet you might like this. It does tame down after a while and that bubble gum doesn’t remain throughout…but I have to admit that it’s different and sometimes different does the trick. This is one of the perfume houses that I wish would offer smaller versions of their 100ml fragrances. Profvmum are you listening??!

  6. Dearest Hound
    Rose and patchouli bubblegum candy?
Now that is something of an oddity! Though averse to the sweet generally speaking I’m intrigued to try just because it sounds well, slightly odd, especially that sour note in between.

  7. I got a toothache reading this although I am intrigued. Have you tried Rose Velours? It is stunning 🙂

  8. This fragrance was so much fun to wear at the State Fair of Texas and the Texas Rangers Opening Game. It’s a “fun activity” fragrance. I liked it. It smelled like a powdered sugar rose with a dry patchouli dry down. I swear no funnel cakes were eaten at either event. I just smelled that way.

  9. I think that one will be easily left in a “no need to test” compartement. Maybe someday if I’m in a really funny mood.

  10. Heya Hound,
Thank you for the link love. Excellent that you got a Bubble Gum reference from this and I hope to come across it in my travels through the samples one day so I can try find the bubble gum for myself.
    I love your reviews.
