WHAT I SMELL: Elixir opens with a soft, sweet, beautiful juicy raspberry and peach. It’s so edible and inviting and it’s an immediate spirit lifter. A luscious rose and a brightened jasmine come sweeping in; mixing in an intoxicating way with the fruity goodness. I always love a perfume that is full of positive energy and Elixir is the epitome of positivity. The perfume starts to take on a layer of cottony musk which adds just the right amount of clean-like sparkle. And soon enough, a light warmth begins to blend with the sweetened cotton which makes the perfume that much more comforting. Not too long in the perfume’s development, Elixir begins to quiet and soften. It’s still lightly sweet, but very demure in the most enticing way.

BOTTOM LINE: I have to admit that Elixir was not love at first sniff. I thought it was pretty, but after wearing it a couple of times, I found that I was craving its quiet beauty. Elixir borders on being a skin scent, because when you are wearing it, it feels as if it’s not projecting. But others around me have been left wondering where the heavenly scent is coming from. Elixir is a very personal fragrance…one that’s easy to make your own.

Before leaving the US in 2017 for Mexico, it was clear that there was an entrepreneurial groundswell happening with small start-up companies, stores and restaurants happening throughout the country. It was exciting to see craftmanship return to the marketplace with people who had the love and spirit to make and provide new and unique products and services. Here in Mexico, the same is happening, especially with the younger generation. And because of it, many are bringing a new twist to the traditional in a very exciting way.
WHAT IT SMELLS LIKE TO ME: A quiet early evening bike ride underneath Merida’s Arcos de Dragones.
WHAT I SMELL: The first spritz of Zizan is a blast of citrus that is quickly tempered with a light mix of pepper and herbs. It’s very clear from the beginning that Zizan is classic male fragrance…there’s nothing avant-garde here. As it continues to develop, a sweetened floral mix entwines with the herbs as it warms the skin. Soon enough, a green vetiver comes forward with a lemony edge. Actually, it smells a bit like Lemon Pledge at this point. But at soon as I say that, it starts to have a boxing match with a more woody amber. There is a lot of movement with Zizan which is fine with me as I can’t wait to see where it settles down. As the perfume continues to morph, the warmth intensifies and there’s an increase in its projection off of the skin. At this point, the vetiver has a rather sharp edge, but lingering below may be some other notes to rein it in. After ten more minutes, the vetiver bows to the light amber. Still peppery and woody, Zizan begins to quiet down with just the right amount of fight.
WHAT IT SMELLS LIKE TO ME: Classic in its approach, Zizan’s confidence spreads to the wearer. Think Herb Alpert’s 1960’s classic album, “Whipped Cream & Other Delights.” Full of energy and oh so sexy.
