Oh my, an amber that didn’t work for me. I have heard nothing but rave reviews about Amber Oud…but again, oh my. First Amber Oud goes on sharp, it has a strong bite. It’s the oud mixed with the bay leaves I am guessing. I read from other reviews that this fragrance is sweet. I’m not getting any sweetness whatsoever. I was hoping that the vanilla would pop out to even out the sharpness of the scent. It materializes slightly, but never to the point of cutting that edge. After a bit, the sharpness dissipates and the scent retreats close to the skin. That’s fine, but all day long all that I was smelling was a sour note. And not even the amber warmed this for me. I am truly disappointed, but I will be giving this one another chance. Maybe it’s just my body chemistry! 😦
Amber Oud Notes:
Amber, oud, bay leaf, cedarwood, vanilla
- Bone Rating: 2 out of 5 possible bones
- Classification: Unisex
- Expense: $395 for 50ml EDP

As a lover of both amber and oud, it took me a while to come around to this, too. The first hit of it smells like an oaky bourbon whisky–a little harsh on the nose. But it warms up on me and fades into a delicious resinous, almost floral scent.

I really wish that I could say that it warmed to a delicious scent. I can see where you say it’s resinous, but it just is so sour on me! And I like your “oaky bourbon wisky” description, it’s the perfect way to describe it.

As most Kilian’s perfumes, this one isn’t for me to wear but I admire it on its own. I’m not upset even to the slightest extend though: definitely money saved for me. But still – it’s a very beautiful perfume.

I think with the BK perfumes you are paying for brand (packaging, exclusivity) more than anything. If anybody knows luxury it’s LVMH! I’m just sorry that I haven’t been able to connect with their scents. I just received the new samples from their Asian collection today. We’ll see how those turn out.
