Tom Ford Ombré Leather Parfum

WHAT I SMELL:  Ombré Leather Parfum opens with a light suede and a dusting of violet leaf.  It’s soft and a little creamy with a clean finish.  From the beginning, the suede feels smooth and pliable like a set of very fine gloves or the softest of slippers.  As the perfume develops, the suede moves to more of a hardened leather.  But don’t get me wrong, there is nothing but elegance here as the leather retains its’ gentlemanly demeanor.  After some time, the leather adds just a touch of woody tobacco.  Here, the perfume moves from the closet to the men’s club.  Again, the perfume remains refined while being incredibly approachable.  And then some time later, a light floral glides in that feels a bit spongy and which seems to float above the leather and tobacco.  In the end, the perfume quiets to a soft and comforting light leather perfume that is topped with the prettiest of violet florals.

From the Tom Ford website:

OMBRÉ LEATHER PARFUM INTENSIFIES THE ORIGINAL SCENT, FUSING HEATED LEATHER FLORALS WITH WOODS–CAPTURING THE UNBRIDLED SENSUALITY OF THE AMERICAN WEST.

ABOUT THE FRAGRANCE:
A DISTINCT FLORAL LEATHER, OMBRÉ LEATHER PARFUM MAGNIFIES THE ORIGINAL FRAGRANCE, MERGING BLACK LEATHER WITH POWERFUL VIOLET LEAF AND SENSUAL CEDARWOOD LACED WITH A HINT OF GREEN TOBACCO.

My Little Pony – Rainbow Dash

WHAT IT SMELLS LIKE TO ME:  My Little Pony…lightly leathered, lightly sweet.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT OMBRÉ LEATHER PARFUM:  No written reviews found.

BOTTOM LINE:  I really like this perfume from beginning to end.  Being Tom Ford, I was thinking that this would be a powerful leather bomb.  Instead, I was quite surprised to find a soft, comforting and quiet perfume.  Ombré Leather Parfum is a perfect leather perfume for the office or for those evenings out on the town when you just want a whisper of leather to trail behind you.

New Release: Le Jardin Retrouvé Mousse Arashiyama

WHAT I SMELL:  Mousse Arashiyama opens with a warmed and softly bright bergamot highlighted with a brush of incense.  It’s comfort right from the start as the bergamot soon settles into a beautifully radiant fig with hints of soft and lightly creamy moss.  Here, the perfume feels like a lullaby with hushed and quiet tones as it has been sung for hundreds of years.  The perfume then moves from the branches above to the ground below as an earthy base settles softly under the fig.  Here, the fresh overturned soil makes Mousse Arashiyama feel rooted in time.  At the same time, rising above the warmed earth is a combination of fig, incense, moss and wood in a radiant but weighted manner.  And with it, just a tinge of greenish vetiver to give the effect of rays of sunshine peaking at the grounded root.  From beginning to end, Mousse Arashiyama is a dream of a perfume.

From the Le Jardin Retrouvé website:

You walk in this forest as in a sacred place. Cradled by the softness of the moss, your steps obey an old instinct, a deep intuition. At the bend of the trail, your eyes finally meet this powerful tree you know, but whose name you do not remember. Your soul, freed from gravity, subtly separates itself from the ground and lingers to savor the scents of oak moss, patchouli, lentiscus and frankincense.

Inspiration: Arashiyama Garden, Kyoto, Japan

Top Notes:  bergamote , encens, lentisque

Middle Notes:  notes aquatique, accord figue

Base Notes: mousse de chêne, vétiver , cèdre

WHAT IT SMELLS LIKE TO ME:  Victorian Japan.  Connecting the ancient to the modern.

Cavatina by Parfums Dusita

WHAT I SMELL:  Cavatina opens with a lovely green barber shop bergamot that’s herbal, fresh and warmly inviting.  It’s not too bright, nor too earthy, but it has a wonderfully familiar and comforting persona, and from first spritz the perfume sings with happiness and joy.  As the perfume develops, a green floral starts to emerge along with a light clean and fresh soapiness and in short time a fresh and dewy muguet takes center stage.  At this point, the perfume is neither loud nor quiet.  Instead, it’s perfectly balanced in its freshness as it begins to grow and project along with just a hint of creaminess.  As this happens, Cavatina begins to move to the more “bathtastic” with a finish that feels as if you just emerged from an exquisitely fragrant bubble bath.  Continuing on, the perfume begins to center itself around a green jasmine accord which is soft and pretty as it’s wrapped up in a cottony musk finish.  It’s all just so glorious; when you wear Cavatina, you can’t help but smile.

From the Parfums Dusita website:

Inspiration:  Cavatina is music to the soul, a fragrant hymn to human compassion conducted with the spirit of “joie de vivre”. Starting with Pissara Umavijani’s  love for vintage muguet-centered scents, she composed new floral accords that ended up dancing together in a melodious scent that became Cavatina.

Olfactive Notes:

The opening, a symphony of sparkling, invigorating citrusy notes: Calabrian Bergamot, Chinese Litsea Cubeba, Paraguayan Petitgrain greets our exclusive, resolutely modern Muguet Accord.

At the Heart, our very own Tea Rose Accord harmonically blends with fresh, seductive floral touches: Egyptian Tuberose and Jasmine Grandiflorum, Indonesian Ylang-Ylang.

The Base Notes, the airy muskiness of Indian Ambrette, the soft woodiness of Siamese Wood and the deep sensuality of Madagascar Vanilla.

WHAT IT SMELLS LIKE TO ME:  I can’t argue with perfumer Pissara Umavijani’s inspiration; Cavatina is “music for the soul.”

THREE WORDS THAT DESCRIBE CAVATINA: fresh, spring-ish, joyous

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT CAVATINA: The Plum Girl, CaFluereBon, The Black Narcissus

BOTTOM LINE: It’s presently January, but when you wear Cavatina it immediately transports you to spring.  Its clean and fresh muguet heart is just what is needed to take you away from the dark winter skies.
