Ormonde Jayne Gatsby 22

WHAT I SMELL:   Gatsby 22 opens with a sweetened bergamot that has been basking in the sun.  In quick manner, a juicy citrus rushes in bringing with it joy, happiness and so much positive energy.  And soon after, the citrus moves to the floral with a very tame osmanthus sitting below the prettiest of violet.  Together they move the perfume from the joyous to the sublime.  At this point the perfume is so pretty and full of life that it makes you want to dance the day away.  As the perfume begins to settle, Gatsby 22 begins to warm and become more radiant.  The osmanthus remains, but a lightly sharpened vetiver joins the mix which helps to keep the energy level of the perfume intact.  And after some more time the perfume the really expands and seems to take on a bath note, or as I call it a “bathtastic” note where the combination of notes reminds me of the remains of a bubble bath.  In the end, Gatsby 22 keeps on giving as the perfume doesn’t shy away from the party as this beauty seems to last well into the night with the lively use of jubilant musk.

From the Ormonde Jayne website:

What fun I had creating a perfume to personify a stylish and sophisticated era – nostalgic for a time of jazz, pearls, well-tailored dinner jackets, cigars and Rolls Royce cars.

Gatsby 22 is confident, edgy and sophisticated. A boisterous burst of Sicilian lemon and bergamot penetrates the senses. Osmanthus, orange blossom and violets follow instantly to smooth off the sharpness. Notes of vetiver linger on, giving Gatsby 22 true staying power. Wear it anytime, anywhere to make a stylish entrance.

HEAD: BERGAMOT, SICILIAN LEMON, PINK PEPPER

HEART:  OSMANTHUS, VIOLET, ORANGE BLOSSOM

Mia Farrow as Daisy Buchanan – The Great Gatsby (1974)

WHAT IT SMELLS LIKE TO ME:  I won’t mess with the Gatsby inspiration as it fits the perfume perfectly.  But in looking towards my inspirational picture, I chose the 1974 version of The Great Gatsby with Mia Farrow as Daisy Buchanan as the perfume has a bit of softness in it that the latest version of the movie didn’t possess.

ByBozo Eternal Rainbow

WHAT I SMELL:  Eternal Rainbow opens with a brush of color with soft florals highlighted by a light rose tinged with blackberries that is soon met with a juicy grapefruit and warm citrus.  While that sounds like there is a lot going on, the perfume blends like a breeze.  And the opening is so wonderfully pretty and inviting with a wonderful depth and warmth that carries you in.  There’s a cottony lightness that bounces upon the fruit which seems to buzz with brightened energy without bursting forward as it tames its enthusiasm.  As Eternal Rainbow begins to settle, the florals remain, but the berries seem to dissipate as the grapefruit holds it own along with just a touch of herbs.  Here, the perfume resides in it’s own universe…not on the ground and not to the sky as if it shimmers in citrus and floral pink hued sweetness that lives in the background in the most beautiful of way.  The perfumes remains in this realm for quite some time before it retreats into a quiet vetiver topped with a light cottony musk.

From the ByBozo website:

Elusive Red flowers, juicy grapefruit, vetiver, laurel, topped with blackberries. A spectre of harmony. Clear, but elusive, gentle, ethereal. A pure rainbow will envelop you in its wing, giving lightness and inspiration. But if you want to see it, you can’t. Eternal Rainbow keeps its opening and middle notes secrets, creating a sense of intrigue upon first meeting. Want to catch it? Then what are you waiting for? Do it! And it’ll fly here and there, with its delicate colours shimmering.

Notes:  Vetiver, Laurel, Grapefruit, Floral notes, Blackberry

WHAT IT SMELLS LIKE TO ME:  The perfume was named perfectly…Eternal Rainbow.

Grossmith Amelia

WHAT I SMELL:  Amelia sweeps quietly in the room as not to make a noticeable announcement of her arrival with a soft, warm muted osmanthus and the quietest neroli.  Soon, the softest of florals enter with rose as the lead, along with just a bit of soap, still ever so faintly but with a warm heart.  There’s something wonderfully radiating about the perfume, but in the most serene of manner.  And Amelia doesn’t develop as much as it blends.  It moves with quiet steps that make the notes indistinguishable as they’re so wonderfully fused together in veil of floral beauty.  Amelia is a comfort scent that doesn’t feel as if it needs to please anyone, but with it brings a warm character of incredible grace and a gentle demeanor.

From the Grossmith website:

This feminine scent was created in honour of Amelia Brooke, Simon’s great grandmother, who was the key to his discovery of the lost perfume house. Amelia’s father was the founder, John Grossmith.

Amelia is a soft and elegant chypre which opens with enticing notes of neroli and osmanthus, and develops into a smooth floral heart of rose, peony and jasmine, supported by warm amber. Patchouli, sandalwood, vetiver and cashmere musks form the long-lasting and rounded base.

Top notes – neroli, osmanthus; Heart notes – rose, jasmine, peony, amber; Base notes – patchouli, sandalwood, vetiver, cashmere musks

WHAT IT SMELLS LIKE TO ME:  Little Women’s Marmee – a beautiful heart.

THREE WORDS THAT DESCRIBE AMELIA:  soft, quiet, understated

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT AMELIA:  CaFleureBon

BOTTOM LINE:  Amelia is a hard perfume to describe because it’s blended so seamlessly and is so incredibly muted.  But as a soft floral that is so quiet and beautiful it surprisingly leaves a long lasting impression as it stays on the skin for a long time with a gentle whisper.
