Cendres de The by Phaedon

New perfume by a new line.  I was excited to check out the new Cendres de The and some of their other new scents.  So this was my first venture into the Phaedon line.  This is a comfortable scent that is very clean, masculine and subtle.  The cedar really comes out in the top notes, but then evens out into a nice woody with light musk scent.  I typically lean towards heavier scents, but could see myself wearing this.  It would fit the workplace very nicely.  Given that, I don’t think I’ll be spending any money on a full bottle, but will just stick to enjoying the sample.  I recommend this for those who like to smell clean and light…it’s old school with a twist.

Cendres de The Notes:

Cardamom, tea, myrrh, cedar, ho wood oil, musk

  • Bone Rating:   3 out of 5 possible bones
  • Scent:  cedar, woody, clean
  • Classification:  Unisex but leans towards masculine
  • Expense:   Moderate – $125 for 100ml

Omniscient Eau de Parfum by Yosh

I just received a collection of samples yesterday, so I will be having fun in the next couple of weeks testing some new scents.  Not choosing any one in particular, the first item that I grabbed turned out to be Yosh’s Omniscient.  The color of the perfume is a beautiful and deep amber color.  I was excited to test this scent!  It first goes on very spicy, but then the gardenia in the scent really comes out.  I find this very warm, but as the day goes on, it becomes very floral.  This is considered a unisex perfume, but I have to say that it really leans towards the feminine.  It really does have lasting power and a little goes a long way.   Omniscient is part of Yosh’s Evanescent collection.  I’d be very interested in seeing what else is part of the collection.  Bottom line on this is that it is a lovely scent.  However, I think it better serves the female gender.

From the Yosh website:

Pink pepper gives this classic scent a light, ethereal quality.  Yet its spicy and robust. Both men and women who wear this fragrance comment on its magnetic quality.

Ingredients:  Gardenia, Egyptian Tuberose, Fig, Lilac, Violet, Kush, Tunisian Opium, Vanilla, Sandalwood, Basil, Clove and Geranium

  • Bone Rating:   3 out of 5 possible bones
  • Scent:  warm, flowery, feminine
  • Classification:  Considered unisex, but leans feminine
  • Expense:   Moderately expensive – $110 for 50ml

L’Instant de Guerlain

This is one of those colognes that sits on my shelf but I rarely put it on.  It’s not that I don’t like it.  It’s just one of those scents that I don’t find particularly memorable and it doesn’t compel me to want to wear it.  In other words, it’s one of those scents that my partner says I will eventually give to him as a hand me down (it is true, that does happen quite a bit).  When you read the description of this cologne it states that this is a woody scent.  I would say that it’s more of a fresh scent, very clean and light and a bit sweet.  The official description says that it has flamboyant virility and discreet femininity.  I like that description.  The scent is considered a masculine scent, but it does have a very soft finish.  In all, I believe that this is a safe bet if you want to wear cologne without causing a stir, no one will find this scent offensive or objectionable.

From the Guerlain site:

Luminous woody. Fresh, warm, sensual. This paradoxical perfume skates between fire and ice, flamboyant virility and discreet femininity. The luminous freshness of citrus crystals and star anise contrast with the sensual warmth of patchouli, hibiscus seeds and cocoa to offer, through this luminous woody fragrance, a moment after which everything will be different.

  • Bone Rating:   3 out of 5 possible bones
  • Scent:  light, fresh, woody
  • Classification:  Masculine
  • Expense:   Moderate, in Eau de Toilette and Eau de Parfum
