WHAT I SMELL: Risqué (marketed as Creation-R in the United States) opens with a warm and sensual bergamot that is surrounded by the deepest rounded and lung filling florals that feel as if they are trapped in bosom of a hug and which at first is like they are fighting to get out of that hug, only to surrender and bury themselves deeper into the warm embrace of the feminine mystique. As perfumes go, Risqué is head swimmingly beautiful, yet there is this undercurrent of carnality that draws you in without release. I have said this before, that when I review a Roja Dove parfum, I always have to state that the blending is seamless and as such the individual notes af for the most part are hard for me to pull apart. This creation is no different. After around 10 minutes, the florals starts to sink further into the skin as if they are retreating to a more primal place only to then begin radiate and project from what seems to be a labyrinth below. There is a dusting of leather and civet that wrap themselves around the perfume like a cage that attempts to keep the cat from its prey. And finally, after an hour or so, a layer of creaminess covers the perfume, only to make the cat purr like a kitten. I don’t find that there is particularly a great deal of development with Risqué, but that’s the most wonderful aspect of the perfume overall. So many perfumes start off strong and interesting, only to be left as a shadow of its former self. Instead Risqué remains deeply warm, deeply carnal, deeply passionate and beautifully sensual. And as a plus, Risqué weaves its magic all through the night…leaving a whisper of itself into the morning.
From the Roja Parfums website:
“On The Edge Of The Forbidden”
“When I created this I thought of how society tells us how we have to behave, think, and act. So I decided to create a perfume that seemed tailored and disciplined – but as it develops it starts to show its overtly sensual base, which gets warmer, darker and more overt with each breath”. Roja Dove
WHAT IT SMELLS LIKE TO ME: The beautiful Simone Simon as Irena in the 1942 version of Cat People, who turns into a panther when aroused by passion.
THREE ADJECTIVES THAT DESCRIBE RISQUÉ: seductive, pulsating, intense
WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT RISQUÉ: Kafkaesque
BOTTOM LINE: There are certain perfumes that hit us on a level that can’t be explained. Every breath of Risqué wraps me up in this enchanted and seductive spell never to let me go. This is a full bottle must for me so I better start saving my pennies…OK dollars, because I’m in love.

No, stop by Bergdorf’s *BEFORE* other retail therapy. This is Roja Dove we’re talking about, with prices to match, so best not to divert your funds elsewhere first. lol 😀

The problem is I don’t know when it is. I missed the one on January 6th (Spend $500, get $100; spend $750, get $200; or spend $1,000, get $300.) Assuming you reach the $1,000 spending level, depending on how they “give” you the $$$s, the discount is either 30% (i.e. your out-of-pocket cost = $700 if they immediately take off $300) or if you get a $300 gift card, it means you have to shell out the extra $300 to be able to use the $300 and the discount ends up being 23% ($300 / $1,300). You can tell I’ve spent way too much time thinking about (obsessing over) as to when I should do my humongo purchase. Regardless, a discount is a discount and I am patient…I may need to rely on the good graces of the Guerlain SA to let me know when the next event is (even though I currently do not have a Guerlain on my Wish List). In the meantime, I keep on accumulating BG / NM gift cards so this purchase may end up being perfumista-math free. 🙂

There is such enormous joy, love, and happiness emanating from your words, Mr. Hound, that one can feel it through the screen and one can tell just how much this fragrance impacted you. Those are always the best scents. Such a lovely and thoroughly enjoyable review. (And thank you for the link love.)

Today spring arrived, and sitting out in the sunshine, being warmed by the rays of sun was amazing. During winter one tends to forget that it’s even possible. But coming to your review, that kind of weather makes one want to wear exactly this kind of fragrance and you make it sound absolutely wonderful. I’m not sure if it’s good or bad that the only way of testing these for me is ordering samples, which has so far kept me away for sheer fear of falling as hard for one of them as it seems that you have for Risqué.
I really enjoyed your beautiful words and hope you get the pennies together soon 🙂

A beautiful write up, Mr. Hound. I can feel that you are head over heels with this one. I was kinda drooling while I was reading your review… I want to try the sample, that’s the only way I can experience this fragrance, but I’m too afraid to do so… Dilemma…

I know when you get into the pricier perfumes you don’t want to fall in love. Cause we do tend to be weak when there’s something we really want. Remember those days when we used to think that spending $60 was a lot for perfume??!!

Great review – I love the sound of the ‘layer of creaminess’ and might even be able to face off the civet these days. Out of court on price, I don’t doubt, but sounds lovely all the same. A five boner, no less!

Happily I don’t remember this one making me swoon. I’m glad it works for you and you’ll definitely need to save your pennies for this one. Perhaps you could sweet talk the hubby into buying it for you. You deserve it.

Houndy, get thee to Bergdorfs starting this Sunday. The $s off sale is going on — $75 off $500 purchase or $200 off $1,000 purchase (I bet there’s something in between too but I didn’t bother asking). The $300 off I saw from back in January was online only.
Have you smelled Roja and the new Nuwa? I like them better than Creation-R but the prices, oy vey!

U – I think it’s the finish on the perfume that does it for me. His creations are so elegant and refined, they make you feel like you are wearing “perfume” vs. a “fragrance.”
