WHAT I SMELL: V. Intense’s opening is a beautiful burst of bergamot and sweet pear which is soon mixed with a warmed saffron. Deliciously pretty, a ripe and juicy plum note soon comes to the center of the stage. Not too juicy though, the plum is lush without being saturated. Actually, it feels like it’s sitting on top of a lush green bouquet of patchouli. The perfume has an incredibly radiance, as if the plum and patchouli are pushing out this warmed, yet powdered and dried sunny hue. After some more, a hint of incense appears making the perfume mysterious and seductive. After which a pencil shaving note of sandalwood appears while the perfume increases its powdery evolution with just the hint of cream. In the end, the warmed tonka and incense make for lovely modern vintage vibe.
From Robert Piguet Parfums:
V. Intense opens with a burst of bergamot, pear and saffron, a whirling eddy of citrus and spice. Soft rose, sweet ylang ylang and sumptuous plum unlock the daring core, a dalliance of fruit and floral that lays a warm, exotic path to the fragrance’s denouement. Patchouli, incense, sandalwood and white musk create a magical dry down, as transporting as it is visceral.
WHAT IT SMELLS LIKE TO ME: Although V. Intense was only launched in 2014, it has a very urban sophisticated 1950s nostalgic feel to me. It’s pretty and lightly sweet with just the right amount of powder and it feels ’50s fashionable in being neat, trimmed and tailored.
THREE WORDS THAT DESCRIBE V. INTENSE: vibrant, energizing, witty
WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT V. INTENSE: AustralianPerfumeJunkies, Fragrance Daily
BOTTOM LINE: V Intense, full of plum, is everything I thought I would not like in a perfume. Instead, it’s understated beauty and urban sophistication is everything that I crave in a perfume. I absolutely love it.

Hi Cynthia. Robert Piguet has been around since the 1930s and were niche before niche was an industry. You probably have heard of Bandit and Fracas which are both incredible perfumes…but the rest of the line doesn’t get much exposure. As I cited in my review, I wasn’t expecting much from this as well…being sweet and full of fruit…once again I need to stop to enjoy a perfume and not make a judgment prior to testing! I hope you get a chance to try this. Thanks for stopping by.

I can’t say Robert, I have never smelled Natori…but now you have piqued my interest and I want to now! What are your thoughts on Natori?

I adore it! The plum note is really smooth and blends with the florals so well. The base skews towards the musk instead of the patch. Best of all is the price!! It’s a steal!

PS?…I’m referring to the edp in the deep purple bottle with the “window” in the middle, not the edt in the pinkish bottle.

This sounds lovely, and 4.5 bones? I think I have no clue what a plum note is! The only one I’m familiar with is Mary Greenwell’s Plum, and I don’t interpret that as plum, or plummy, or what-have-you. Could you explain what plummy is? The only reference I have is the royal family, and while the new gang seems to be be charming, I suspect I would be ushered out of their presence in a discrete frenzy.

Dearest Holly…here the plum smells like round ripe purple plum, just what I think plum smells like. I’m not sure how else to describe it.

Normally I don’t like plum notes in fragrances. May have to try this one. Thanks!

Aurelien Guichard is primarily responsible for the line.. if you look him up, you can see that he has quite the extensive creations under his name…primarily commercial.

The only complaint about Robert Piguet line I have is that it’s so obscure: I saw it a couple of times at local Neiman Marcus but then it disappeared, and I’m not sure if any other store carries it.
Two of their most famous perfumes do not work for me at all but I like Calypso, so I’m open to trying other perfumes from the brand. Though our tastes do not match much, we have some intersections; and I’m always impressed by your bones ratings 🙂

They are rather elusive aren’t they. The only place that I have really seen them prominently located is at Bergdorfs…and since we don’t live in NYC, that makes it a bit hard to experience them. As you may have noted, this was a surprise for me….maybe for you too? :O
