New Release – Tauerville Fruitchouli Flash

Fruitchouli-Flash-30mlWHAT I SMELL:  Fruitchouli Flash does open with a flash…a flash of warm, peach, apricot and ripe fruit, topped with a nutty, rather carameled syrup.  It is rich, thick, heavy and interestingly burnt.  The perfume smells like a fruit and nut topping that you would put on an ice cream sundae.  After around five minutes, the syrupy thickness gives way, but the fruity sweetness begins to really grow and project.  At this point it’s hard to tell where the fruity ends and the patchouli begins as this is just, sweet upon sweet.  After some more time, the fruity turns to floral.  Though still sweet, it now feels like a bit of caramel has covered a bouquet of flowers vs. a fruit compote.  As the perfume continues to develop, the sweets adds an undercurrent of creaminess and the perfume becomes smoother.  After quite some time, the perfume begins to pull considerably back with the sweetness and the woody patchouli seems to air the perfume out.  In the end, the fruity floral sweetness is still there, but it thankfully recedes to softer level.

Fragrance Notes:

Apricot, Peach, Rose, White Flowers, Musk, Patchouli

WHAT IT SMELLS LIKE TO ME: A deluge of sweet caramelized fruity cream.

THREE WORDS THAT DESCRIBE FRUITCHOULI FLASH:  over-the-top

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT FRUITCHOULI FLASH: Now Smell This, Colognoisseur

BOTTOM LINE:  I just dabbed on the smallest amount on my wrist and I think the sweetness travelled up to my mouth and I’m about to lose a couple of teeth.  You really have to love sweet perfumes to like Fruitchouli Flash.  It makes me feel like I just left the ice cream parlor and that sticky sweet bright atmosphere is still stuck to my skin.

  1. Dear Mr Hound,

I have been very curious about this one and your review is just what i was looking for. I don’t think this one will be my cup of tea, but for those who like fruitichoulis, this will be right up their street.

    warmest wishes

  2. Oh dear. This would be a BFN (Big Fat No) for me.
And that picture – as always your choice perfectly represents your impressions. A little rough going for a morning read, but hey, you took the hit for the team! It’s rather reminiscent of the movie Carrie, no?

Have you liked any of the Flash series?

    • Ohhh…I love the BFN…I hadn’t heard of that before. Yes, it is rather Carriesque, but maybe more Nickelodeon slime as well. This is my first foray into the Flash series…so I can’t speak to the others. Your thoughts?

      • Honestly, BFN is something I made up and I’m afraid it’s politically incorrect. Unfortunately, it’s stuck in my head and I really need to come up with something better and lose the word “fat” from my vocabulary I suppose.

I like Rose Flash. It’s huge on me, and considering that I have not delved into the nuances. It’s quite bright, almost fluorescent, and Peter Max comes to mind. Rose almost always turns sour on me, and this one doesn’t. There’s a jammy note which I usually don’t like, but somehow it works in Rose Flash. I also have Vanilla Flash, which I like as well. Very British mens’ clubby with the rich tobacco notes being quite prominent on me. I immediately thought of using it as a car scent. 😉 Since PHI doesn’t work for me (headshop) I like to layer these. Or I should say that I like that combo better than PHI. I’ve learned that while I may like certain perfumes, I often don’t like to actually wear them if they’re loud.

        • And oops! forgot to add: Incense Flash is too smokey for me, and I have yet to come around to amber so I haven’t tried the Amber Flash.

        • Hmmmm, you lost me when you said Peter Max, which sounds like it might be a bit too kaleidoscope. After trying the fruit flash, I am just afraid the others would be too big…and it sounds like that might be the case. As for layering…I wish I was that adventurous. I’m always afraid that I’ll end up smelling like a chemical bomb.

  3. Heavy heavy sweetness can be so difficult I think. That’s how I felt about Sadanne, I felt like I was drowning in molten lollipops. That being said, I’m curious about it because I haven’t tried much with peach/apricot, though it doesn’t sound like it will be my thing either. 🙂 Thanks for the review!

  4. I was really surprised that I ended up liking Fruitchouli Flash. I do agree with you completely about the nuttiness, though I thought the toasted nuttiness lent a dryness that actually reduced my perception of the scent’s sweetness. Then again, I think my tolerance for sweet (as long as it’s not a floral) is somewhere outside the normal range…

    • Ellebelle (I love that name!)…I’m so glad this works for you. I know some will love it and that is wonderful. Andy makes some fantastic fragrances…but this one just didn’t work on my skin. Maybe it’s because I’m so sweet already??? I’ll go with that :). Thanks for stopping by.

  5. Ah, was it that sweet? I don’t usually get on well with over sweet scents… I quite liked some of Andy Tauer perfumes, so I’ve been wondering about this. I might still try it at some point. 😉

  7. I rarely like second/third/etc. brand from the same perfumer: I don’t understand what was wrong with the first one.

I do not want cheaper/simpler/whatever perfumes though I understand why some companies do that. I’ll stick to the couple of original scents that I like.

      • I usually wait until most other reader have read the review and commented on it – so those “snarkier” comments are meant, mostly, for the author’s eyes only (since most random readers who come later through search engines won’t go through the comments section anyway, so I’m not doing too much damage 🙂 ).
