WHAT I SMELL: La Chasse aux Papillons opens with a muted bergamot and a soft and demure orange blossom that’s tangy green. The semi-sweet perfume is lyrical as it dances and pirouettes off my skin with wisps like soft breezes. Overall, the perfume is incredibly girlish, pretty and joyous. The lightened jasmine adds just the right amount of depth with a tad bit of flattened earthened dirt. But by no means is this a dirty perfume. Instead, it’s all sunshine and garden with the white flowers, highlighted by an incredibly soft tuberose and the lightest of green. La Chasse aux Papillons does not develop much, but it doesn’t have to as it’s a simple, pretty and beautifully sunny and happy perfume.
From the L’Artisan Parfumeur website:
Chasing butterflies, surrounded by white flowers. A fragrance icon, perfect for summer days.
Imagine a summer garden flooded with sunshine, full of delicate white flowers, jasmine, orange blossom, tuberose and lime blossom; scents mingling to intoxicate the senses. Sunlight catches the wings of butterflies as they dart among the trees and flowers. Somewhere in the garden you can hear the laughter of children as they chase the butterflies, trying in vain to catch them as they escape on a sunny breeze. This is La Chasse aux Papillons (Chasing Butterflies), the scent of sun-kissed skin, luminous and transparent; a fragrance to make the summer months last that little bit longer.
Notes: Linden blossom, Jasmine, Lemon blossom, Tuberose
WHAT IT SMELLS LIKE TO ME: An operettic Jeanette McDonald (sans Nelson Eddy).
THREE WORDS THAT DESCRIBE LA CHASSE AUX PAPILLONS: delightful, charming, coquettish
WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT LA CHASSE AUX PAPILLONS: Bois de Jasmin, Megan in Saint Maxime, EauMG
BOTTOM LINE: La Chasse aux Papillons is utterly charming, beautiful and delightfully feminine and a completely wonderful perfume.

Love it! You hit the nail on the head with this one. The Jeannete McDonald pic put me in stitches. I enjoy this perfume. It was one of my very first niches and it’s always good for spring and summer. Thanks for a great review!

Ricky, I’m not sure why it took me so long to review this. It really is beautiful, albeit a bit too feminine even for me 🙂

Wonderful review, S. It is girly Indeed and so uplifting too. Do not find it coquetish though, but this is personal. Girly and coquetish are 2 different things for me. I gave a small bottle to a 8 year old girl as a B day gift and she loved the bottle do not know about the scent.. Do you have a FB? I have one and use it frequently.

Hello there, Hound, thank you for this lovely word-picture. You reminded me why I love La Chasse aux Papillons. White-floral fragrances often leave me flat, but La Chasse hits every note perfectly.

Steve, your review made me feel good: I bought a bottle of this perfume a couple of days ago! It wasn’t a planned purchase: I found it for an incredible price while buying another perfume that I also didn’t plan to buy but I was pointed to the sale that I just couldn’t miss… I remembered that I liked it when I tested it before, there was a free shipping… The bottle should be here just by the time the weather is perfect for wearing it 🙂

Heya Hound,
Went through a roller ball of this in record time. Loved it madly. Don’t know why I haven’t repurchased yet.
Thanks for the reminder.

Echoing the others to say you have nailed this pretty scent in one. ‘Coquettish’ is a perfect term for it. Must dig out my sample when it gets a bit warmer!

As a fifty-ish male, coquettish is probably something that I should not be wearing…but damn, I just may have to every now and then 🙂
