MMINKWHAT I SMELL:  Cedar chips and cat pee; that’s M/Mink’s opening to me.  It’s incredibly urinous and surprisingly I’m not offended.  There is a bit of honey that tops off the cat pee…maybe that’s what keeps it from being completely repulsive.  After a good 20 minutes or so, M/Mink begins to mellow and the patchouli brings a bit of sweetness in.  There’s also a tinge of incense that is ever so light that it seems to fade in and out.  Beyond that, M/Mink doesn’t develop all that much.  I don’t love it and I don’t hate it…this is one of those fragrances that you really have to be in the mood to wear.

M/Mink Notes:

Top: Adoxal
Heart: Incense
Base: Patchouli Leaf, Clover Honey, Amber

kitty-litterWHAT IT SMELLS LIKE TO ME:  A cat’s litter box that has been sprinkled with litter box freshener.

THREE ADJECTIVES THAT DESCRIBE M/MINK:  urinous, curious, modern

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT M/MINK:  Smellythoughts, The Scent Train, I Smell Therefore I Am

BOTTOM LINE:  M/Mink is dichotomous in that in sniffing it part of it feels warm and cozy while at the same time there is something very remote about it.  M/Mink is also what I call a fighting scent.  That means that I would wear something like this when I don’t want to be messed with cause I’m just not in the mood!

  • Bone Rating: 3 out of 5 possible bones
  • Scent:  Oriental Woody?
  • Classification: Unisex
  • Expense:  $220 for 100ml EdP

  1. Awesome write up Houndy thanks for reviewing it 😀 you’re totally right about it. Warm, cozy and yet totally “don’t mess with me”. I wear it on nights out a lot as I think it’s angry and confident. I think the sharp opening to super soft drydown is really interesting and makes it much more wearable. I think you’ll grow to like it more and more 😛 3 stars ain’t bad!!

    • Freddie – thanks for the introduction to this. It’s not something that I would add to my collection, but on the right person it could work (like you :)). What I didnt’ mention is how long this lasts. I had it on, took a shower and hours later it was still radiating off of my body!

      • In a good way? 😉 Hahah.
It is strong right – glad you enjoyed sampling it anyway and it wasn’t as scary as some of my other true loves (Orange Star). Lovely write up!

  2. I’m having a hard time to think of moments when I’d enjoy smelling of freshened up litter box.

I must say The Dandy’s rather fond of M/Mink and for all its infamous urinous foulness I find it surprisingly wearable.
Simply put I don’t get the pee at the opening, for me it’s professional grade printing or printmakers’ ink that warms and into an animalic almost simultaneously sweet and savoury honey that is more bee hive than provision store.
Assertive certainly, unusual to a degree, but for me at least quite surreptitiously sexy and possibly even pretty.

    • My dear PD – I agree, even though it smells pissy, there is something that is kind of nice. I know that it’s supposed to smell like printmakers ink, but I have no reference to say if it does or not. Once thing I didn’t mention is that hours later, it was odd but I kind of got a bedsheets on a clothesline smell which was soft and pleasant.

The Dandy in other times and places practices printmaking and honestly this does smell of the studio after certain (not all) types of inks are used.
As so often with aroma, one supposes that smell is comforting or otherwise according to familiarity and fondness with the associated time or place, or person.
As to the dry down, you’re quite right it is gentle and quite reassuring, like the sensation of clothes on a line in sunshine.

  8. First of all – great review 🙂

I remember smelling it on paper: it wasn’t that bad (on paper!) but it wasn’t interesting enough to warrant a skin test at a store. I don’t think I will ever want to check if Iwas wrong (about it not being that bad 😉 )
