Grand Neroli by Atelier Cologne

This has been a summer of citrus.  Perfect for the hot days of summer because of its freshness, I have found a couple of loves in Parfum d’Empire’s Iskander and Azemour les Orangers.   Not all of my citrus encounters have been the same however; Tauer Perfume’s Orange Star bucked that love primarily because the citrus in Orange Star is artificial and not fresh.  The same can’t be said about Grand Neroli.  I’m not sure if it’s love, but it’s a definite like.

WHAT I SMELL:  Pure unadulterated sweet juicy orange.  Nothing artificial, just the juice of a sun-ripened orange.  Lovely.  As time goes on, the orange remains without the sweetness and in comes a bit of green and musk.  Non-complicated in it’s composition, it’s simpler and less sophisticated than Iskander and Azemour les Orangers, but remains a close cousin… maybe their country cousin?  Grand Neroli doesn’t seem to have great longevity, but I’m working off a small sample that I dabbed on and that might make a difference.

Grand Neroli Notes:  Moroccan neroli, lemon, Sicilian bergamot, petitgrain, Persian galbanum, moss, birch leaves, clean musk, white amber, vanilla from Madagascar

WHAT IT SMELLS LIKE TO ME:  Sunshine and casual Saturday mornings.  What I imagine Florida to smell like when you’re in the middle of a blossoming orange grove.

THREE ADJECTIVES THAT DESCRIBE GRAND NEROLI:  sweet, fresh, sunny

  1. Oh this I have to smell. I grew up in an Orange grove in Southern California. There is nothing like a fresh sun warmed Orange. The smell is like god laughing and the angels singing around the perfection of that little juicy fruit.

  2. Neroli and oranges never fail by me. Or is it with me? And Atelier’s Colognes are really bunch of very easy wearable perfumes. And Grand Neroli is so uncomplicated.

  4. I liked Grand Neroli when I tested it. I regret buying two bottles (Trefle Pur and Bois Blonds) instead of going for the set of five: they all smell really nice for me, I wouldn’t mind owning, wearing and sharing with my vSO all of them.

  5. My mouth is watering just imagining what this perfume must smell like. 😀 I love the smell of oranges and greenness, yum!

  6. I really like Grand Nerolie but it doesn’t last long on my skin. It opens loud and quickly fades into a light skinscent. I wish it was stronger. Do you know their Ambre Nue? It’s another great fragrance from Atelier Cologne. It’s higher in concentration, focusing on a dryer aspect of amber

    • I can see what you mean about GN, it’s always hard to really pinpoint the longevity when you use a small sample to dab on. And I haven’t tried any others in the line although I would be afraid to try Amre Nue since I’m weak when it comes to ambers and already have a lopsided collection with the number of ambers…but of course I have to try it now 🙂

      • Trying is always good. It’s great to have a wide perfume knowledge about a specific note. You know a lot about amber, I’m an iris freak 😉

Hope to hear your thoughts about Ambre Nue.

By the way Atelier Cologne will launch two new colognes this year. One with vetiver and one with rose

        • As a male, I find it funny that I have fallen for the rose perfumes, I’ll have to check it out. As for Iris, you and Freddie (SmellyThoughts blog) need to touch base, he loves his Iris’ too!

          • What is your favourite. I’m not a big fan of rose but I do like Lyric Man, expensive stuff, can’t afford it. Maybe one day…
Thanks for letting me know that there’s more of us, iris freaks
